With considerable knowledge and ingenuity, Lukacher adapts Freud's notion of the primal scene to describe both "the interpretive impasse that arises when a reader has good reason to believe that the meaning of one text is historically dependent on the meaning of another or on a previously unnoticed set of criteria, even though there is no conclusive . . . means of establishing the case . . ." and the interpretive constructions he develops to overcome that impasse. In addition to Freud, Lukacher bases these constuctions on Heidegger, Derrida, and Lacanhis discussions full of the dense jargon fashionable today when dealing with those authors. His interpretations bring together authors such as Hegel, Marx, and Shakespeare in provocative ways but, despite the heavy philosophical and psychoanalytical artillery, not in particularly convincing or central ones. About the Author

An interesting take on Christian apologetics. The author was an atheist until he had a revelation regarding an approach to the world. He is a long time cop and currently works cold cases. After attending services, with a friend's urging, he realizes that he can at least try to get to the bottom of the Gospel record. He realizes that much like assuming the husband did it may lead to missing important suspects, ruling out supernatural in examining Gospels is also a mistake. With this altered mindset, he looked with a critical eye to the Gospels like he would a cold case homicide. The book is in two parts. The first is ten tips for investigators. Each tip has a police example and an application to the quest at hand. The second part takes all of these and applies them as a whole.He comes out in favor of the Gospels telling the truth of the eyewitnesses with corroboration and the simplest explanation for all the facts. It sets out to be a way for Christians to "case make" when challenged as well as a way for non believers to try out the evidence.

I read this book because of questions I was having in my own belief. Years ago, a skeptic planted some seeds of doubts by asking me how I could believe the Bible that was hand-picked and assembled by people who clearly benefited and had a vested interest in seeing their movement continue and grow. It was a reasonable question and I couldn't answer it. Mr. Wallace did a great job of answering this with convincing proof and a perspective I had not heard before.I also read many of the negative reviews of this book to see what questions remained unanswered out there and other proofs to the contrary. About the Author

Ignatius Brianchaninov was a 19th-century monk and the abbot of the St. Sergius Monastery in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is the author of On the Prayer of Jesus.
